Explore the beauty of expression, one pebble at a time.

Each pebble evokes a story only you can tell.

It's incredible how something as seemingly simple as painting pebbles can become a powerful medium for self-expression and connection.

For more than three decades, I lived with trauma, believing I had no choice. Taking a leap of faith, I am discovering that reaching out to others and sharing my story, my hard-won experience and my trauma recovery, allows me to create change in myself as well as support others. On the days I hover between denial and perfection, I am no longer addicted to thinking at the expense of feeling. I am not alone. I can help others. Others can help me.

Choice allows me to give voice to the battles that lie within. I can connect outwardly with others and inwardly with my authentic self. Sharing in this way creates positive change for me and connects with others who might be going through similar struggles. I am learning that creativity, in its many forms, holds the ability to speak to us in ways that spoken words often cannot.

Each pebble becomes a vessel for emotion and personal interpretation, allowing each person to connect in their own way. The combination of mindfulness, creativity, and the intention behind the pebble art provides a resonance that invites people to pause, reflect, and perhaps find solace or inspiration.

I am sharing my story through because each image on the pebbles carry a profound meaning for me. My hope is that you gain as much insight into your struggles as I do from holding these pebbles.

They say, “It’s not the only pebble on the beach.”

My answer is, “But it’s your pebble, and I made it just for you.”

About Karen Louise

As a mother of four, I have watched, proudly, as they forge forward in their own lives. Finding myself unwell, determined to face my struggles with support, I recognised I could sit on the sidelines and watch, or I could find the courage to do something different for myself.

Leaving my corporate job of 17 years to search for contentment and purpose, coupled with a willingness to explore new avenues such as painting pebbles and writing my memoir, signified a profound shift towards self-discovery and healing. This new path on my life journey has been profound, courageous and sometimes terrifying. The challenges thrown my way have often tested my resilience. My hope, through the power of self-care, self-compassion and self-nurturing physically, emotionally, and mentally, has been to rediscover my true self.

Self-healing has been hard work. However, my network of supportive and understanding health professionals has reinforced the truth that healing and growth can come from within and through the connections we build.

The metaphor of the pebbles carrying unique stories that resonate individually with each person mirrors the depth and personal connection embedded in my art. I plan to keep embracing these newfound passions for sharing my pebbles and in time, writing my memoir. Both forms of self-expression will serve as a conduit for channelling my hard-won life experience and lessons to help others navigate similar challenges.
